Spin-induced scalarization and magnetic fields

چکیده

In the presence of certain non-minimal couplings between a scalar field and Gauss-Bonnet curvature invariant, Kerr black holes can scalarize, as long they are spinning fast enough. This provides distinctive violation hypothesis, occurring only for some high spin range. this paper we assess if strong magnetic fields, that may exist in vicinity astrophysical holes, could facilitate effect, by bringing down threshold scalarization. inquiry is motivated fact self-gravitating themselves, also promote "spin-induced" Nonetheless, show \textit{vicinity horizon} effect $B$ on hole mass $M$, up to $BM\lesssim 1$, works \textit{against} spin-induced scalarization, requiring larger dimensionless $j$ from hole. A geometric interpretation result suggested, terms effects rotation $vs.$ fields horizon geometry.

Pulsar Spin, Magnetic Fields, and Glitches

In the core of a canonical spinning magnetized neutron star(NS) a nearly uniform superfluid neutron vortex-array interacts strongly with a twisted array of magnetic flux-tubes threading the core’s superconducting protons. One consequence is that changes in NS-spin alter both arrays and also the magnetic field distribution on the surface of the surrounding crust. Among predicted consequences for...

Spin transmission control in helical magnetic fields

We calculate spin transport in two-dimensional waveguides in the presence of spatiallymodulated Zeeman-split energy bands. We show that in a regimewhere the spin evolution is predominantly adiabatic the spin backscattering rate can be tuned via diabatic Landau-Zener transitions between the spin-split bands [Betthausen et al., Science 337, 324 (2012)]. This mechanism is tolerant against spin-inde...

Field-induced spin mixing in ultrathin superconducting Al and be films in high parallel magnetic fields.

We report spin-dependent electron density of states (DOS) studies of ultrathin superconducting Al and Be films in high parallel magnetic fields. Superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) tunneling spectra are presented in which both the film and the counterelectrode are in the paramagnetic limit. This SIS configuration is exquisitely sensitive to spin mixing and/or spin flip processes which...

Spin transitions in time-dependent regular and random magnetic fields

We study the transition between Zeeman levels of an arbitrary spin placed into a regular time-dependent magnetic field and a random field with the Gaussian distribution. One component of the regular field changes its sign at some moment of time, whereas another component does not change substantially. The noise is assumed to be fast. In this assumption we find analytically the ensemble average ...
